Richard P. Mills, who has been named to that position, earned his Doctor of Education degree in educational administration at Teachers College in 1977 and, in 1993, received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the College.
Dr. Mills succeeds Thomas Sobol, who earned his Ed.D. in curriculum and teaching at Teachers College in 1969. Dr. Sobol is now a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Teachers College, where he will be teaching courses during the next academic year in both the Department of Educational Administration and the Department of Curriculum and Teaching.
Teachers College, a graduate school of education, is an affiliate of Columbia University but retains its legal and financial independence. Therefore, the institution should be called "Teachers College, Columbia University" or "Columbia University's Teachers College," never just "Columbia University."
