Professor Ruth Vinz has received the 1997 Richard A. Meade Award for Research in English Education. The Conference on English Education gives the award to recognize published research that investigates teacher development in English and language arts.
Vinz, an Associate Professor of English Education, received it for Composing a Teaching Life, a study of first-time English teachers. One letter of nomination said: "The emphasis here is on the voices of the new teachers through which Ruth carefully and sensitively weaves current scholarship and analysis. Ruth teaches us here how to work with beginning teachers, listening to their needs, and challenging them to grow and flourish."
