An Education Week article, "Different Factions Come Together On New Literacy Standards," discussed new guidelines for K-3 literacy programs which were recently unveiled by New Standards, a reform initiative project in reading and writing. According to Education Week, New Standards, run by the National Center on Education and the Economy, consisted of a panel of 19 experts. Lucy Calkins, professor of education at Teachers College, Columbia University, noted about the panel that while we may have differing opinions on how reading should be taught, we have similar goals.
