Counseling Troubled Children
In response to the trauma caused by recent high school shootings, an article appeared in The Standard-Times addressing the issues of identifying and counseling troubled children. Marla Brassard, associate professor of psychology and education at Teachers College, Columbia University, "said she is not wild about training teachers to do what counselors and mental health professionals are paid to do." She also said that while it's an important issue, she doesn't feel that that role should become part of the teachers' responsibilities.
The article, "Younger Children Face Trauma from High-school Shootings," appeared in the May 21, 1999 edition of The Standard-Times. For more information, go to http://www.s-t.com/
