Panel Strongly Endorses Dartmouth's Teacher Training Program
In 1996, at the fourth recommendation to eliminate the Education Department at Dartmouth College in the past two decades, the department was allowed to remain pending the results of a formal review done this past winter. The committee of Dartmouth professors and others outside the college strongly endorsed the program.
TC Professor Nel Noddings said, "Education is so fundamental in a liberal democracy that it would be a real form of neglect for a liberal arts college to turn its back on that task." Critics of the program have argued that the teacher training program was contrary to the mission of the liberal arts college.
The article, entitled "Panel Strongly Endorses Dartmouth's Teacher Training Program" appeared in the March 19th edition of the Boston Globe.
