Columbia Remembers
Columbia commemorates the one year anniversary of september 11th.
On September 11th at 8:40 a.m. the chapel bells rang and about 400 students, faculty and staff members of Columbia University gathered on the steps of Low Library to remember the tragic events one year ago. After a moment of silence at 8:46, President Lee C. Bollinger read the 151 names of family and friends from Columbia who were lost. After a second state-wide moment of silence at 9:03, playwright and Professor of Journalism, Anne Nelson read a selection from her play, The Guys. After Nelson spoke, a police officer delivered the statement that every police officer in every precinct heard on that morning. At 9:07, the bells rang again and concluded the ceremony.
