National Public Radio's The Kojo Nnamdi Show quoted Jeff Henig, professor of political science and education, on his views of mayoral school control in Washington, D.C. Henig said a mayoral takeover of schools is not a panacea. While he acknowledged that most cities that adopt this strategy witness some management improvement, he stated that test outcomes are not as clear. He also said that the public school system has traditionally been more open to minorities than private schools.
Henig is the editor of Mayors in the Middle and is a faculty associate of TC's National Center for the Study of Privatization of Education.
