Dear Reader,

Welcome to TC Today.

As you can see, TC Today is living up to its name. The magazine hasn't undergone any significant revisions to its format since the previous design was introduced in 1996. It was time to take an objective look at ourselves with an eye toward modernizing not only our look, but our content.

And here is the result. We've kept all of the TC Today features you've come to expect--news, events, research, scholarship, alumni updates, links to enhanced web content and more. Our new campus news section brings you more stories about more events, our feature articles go in-depth on important topics and our alumni section still keeps you in the know.

What we've added is focus. This issue, the choice was clear: the anniversary of the historic Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education. We've also added a last-page editorial to bring you perspectives on education issues.

We are constantly seeking to improve the way we communicate with you, and look forward to your comments. (Email us at tctoday@tc.columbia.edu.) We're delighted with TC Today and think you will be too.
