U of M Names First Female African-American Dean

The University of Minnesota on Thursday named Darlyne Bailey as the new dean of its College of Education and Human Development. She becomes the first female African-American dean at the university.
The University of Minnesota on Thursday named Darlyne Bailey as the new dean of its College of Education and Human Development. She becomes the first female African-American dean at the university.

Bailey, currently vice president for academic affairs and dean of Teachers College at Columbia University in New York, will start her new job Oct. 1.

"She's uniquely suited to lead a college dedicated to developing human potential across the lifespan and to addressing key issues such as educational disparities," said University of Minnesota Provost Thomas Sullivan in a statement.
