TC's Lori Custodero argues that children make their own music for reasons that meet development needs for expression, belonging, comfort and complexity

Writing in The Huffington Post, Custodero, Associate Professor of Music Education and co-creator of "WeBop!" at Jazz at Lincoln Center, advises parents and caregivers to "think beyond the word 'cute' and look more deeply" to understand, through a child's eyes, the experience of making music. "What is this teaching him? And ultimately, what is he teaching you?"
