TC Cares Launches Holiday Toy, Book and Coat Drives
Thus far donations to TC Cares have helped provide winter coasts for more than 100 people, provided diapers to more than 100 mothers during the Thanksgiving long weekend, and supported schoolchildren across the city.
“I only wish that those who donated, and all of you, could see the families who visit donation centers in search of basic items like coats and cleaning supplies,” says Vikash Reddy, Student Senate President. “People are resilient, but they're grateful for the help.”
“The donation drives filled two minivans that pulled off to NY Cares and Baby Buggies, one with more than 100 coats and the other with more than 1,000 diapers and more than 20 packages of wipes,” says Maria Hataier, Director of Student Activities and Programs. “The school supplies drive, which collected 10 banker boxes full of school supplies, delivered much needed items to a school in Brooklyn. On the fundraising side we have collected over $1,200 through crowdrise.com thus far. Thank you to all who helped make these drives a success.”
“With winter setting in and the holidays approaching, we hope the TC community will join TC Cares, OSAP, and the Student Senate as we continue to collect donations of coats and toys,” says Jolene Lane, Director for Diversity and Community Affairs.
Members of the community can still visit www.crowdrise.com/TCcaresSandy to make financial contributions to charities engaged in relief and recovery efforts.
