Lisa Miller Honored for Her Humanitarian Work
Lisa Miller, Associate Professor of Education, has been honored for her humanitarian and peace-building efforts by the Association for Trauma Outreach and Prevention (ATOP)/ Meaningful World.
Miller was among a group of honorees that included Hervé Ladsous , the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations; BangladeshiAmbassador Anwarul Chowdhury, Former UN Under Secretary General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing Countries; Lhatu Wangchuk,, Ambassador from the Republic of Bhutan, who developed and spearheaded within the UN a new system of assessing nations’ happiness as well as economic indicators; Kevin Parker, a member of the New York State Senate; and Queen Mother Dr. Delois N. Blakely, who holds the title of Community Mayor of Harlem.
Miller, who is the editor of The Oxford Handbook of Psychology and Spirituality, was recognized for 15 years of courageous and persistent scholarship that have helped prompt the American Psychological Association to recognize spirituality as a focus of psychology.
Meaningful World is a nonprofit organization created by Teachers College alumna Ani Kalayjian, a psychotherapist whose work focuses on healing those who have survived man-made or natural disasters. Kalayjian, whose parents were survivors of the 1915 genocide of the Armenians, received TC’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007
