Glaucoma - Patient to Patient: A Guide for You and Your Family by Edith Marks (MA '70). Marks was a teacher for 17 years retiring as Supervisor of Trainers in Special Education. In 1989 she was diagnosed with glaucoma and wrote about her experiences. She has also appeared on radio and television and has also written and published a fiction novel, Ground Cover.

Faithful to the Task at Hand The Life of Lucy Diggs Slowe by Anne Pruitt-Logan (EdD '64). Pruitt-Logan is Professor Emerita of Educational Policy and Leadership at the Ohio State University.

Gender Paradoxes by Fida Adely (PhD '07). Adely is assistant professor and Clovis and Hala Salaam Maksoud Chair in Arab Studies at the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

The Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the Distinguished Alumni & Early Career Awards - the highest honor bestowed on TC Alumni by the Alumni Association. We invite you to nominate TC graduates who have distinguished themselves in their fields and have earned high respect among their colleagues and the general community, and whose impact is felt on a national or international level. Recent graduates who have graduated within the past 10 years, have earned distinction in their field, and who demonstrate further future potential will be honored with the Early Career Award. Alumni Council Nominations Due Dec. 31
Are you interested in serving your fellow TC alumni? There's still time! TC alumni are represented officially by the Alumni Association's Council, a board of 35 members elected to serve three-year terms. If you are interested in becoming a council member or know someone who would be an asset to the council, please complete a nomination form. Deadline to submit nominations is December 31, the selection process will take place during the first quarter of 2013, and appointments will be made in May.

September 19 - Beyond the Schoolhouse Doors: Bringing Non-School Factors into Education Policy
What would a national education policy look like that mobilized all government agencies and policy tools rather than just schools alone? The editors of three ground-breaking volumes about the role of school and non-school factors in education (Greg Duncan and Richard Murnane, eds., "Whither Opportunity? Rising Inequality, Schools, and Children's Life Chances"; Richard Kahlenberg, ed. The Future of School Integration and William Tate, ed. Research on Schools, Neighborhoods, and Communities) review the latest research and join in a panel discussion of its implications for education policy for the coming decade.

September 28-29 - Language and Social Interaction (LANSI) Working Group
Sponsored by the TESOL and Applied Linguistics Programs at Teachers College, Columbia University, LANSI brings together like-minded colleagues in the larger metropolitan area of New York who work with audio/video-recorded data from naturally occurring interaction. Through their regularly held data sessions, LANSI offers a forum in which participants continue to build their analytical repertoire via mutual engagement over time. In so doing, they also experiment with an apprenticeship model where graduate students work alongside practicing analysts making observations and providing accounts for those observations "empirically and precisely".
