Field Notes on Bond: Kin, colleagues and friends provided thick description of a pioneering education anthropologist and caring mentor

On October 28th in Milbank Chapel, TC held a memorial celebration of the life of George Clement Bond, William F. Russell Professor of Anthropology & Education. The speakers were Bond's children, Matthew, Sarah and Rebecca, and his sister, Jane Clement Bond, History Professor Emerita at Baruch College; TC President Susan Fuhrman,Provost Thomas James and Lambros Comitas, the Gardner Cowles Professor of Anthropology & Education; Roberto Alvarez, Anthropology Professor Emeritus at the University of California-San Diego; Myron Cohen, Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University's Weatherhead East Asian Institute; Nicholas Edsall, History Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia; Walton R. Johnson, Professor of Social Anthropology at Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences; Martin Kilson, Government Professor Emeritus at Harvard University; and Roger Sanjek, Professor of Anthropology at CUNY Queens College.

The speakers' reflections were interspersed with clips from an interview with George Bond for the TC Oral History Project. Lisa Daehlin, Academic Secretary in TC’s Department of International & Transcultural Studies, sang the spiritual "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child," accompanied on piano by TC Music & Music Education faculty member Richard Pearson Thomas.
