In 1940 Gita Weinrauch Kaufman (M.A. '58) escaped from Austria with her immediate family the day they were to be deported to Dachau Concentration Camp. Kaufman shares more about her journey in Shadows from My Past, a film she wrote and directed and recently screened in New York City.

Noted Endeavors, co-founded by Emily Ondracek-Peterson (Ed.D. '13) (right) and Eugenia Zukerman, is a video blog in partnership with MusicalAmerica.com. The blog celebrates individuals and ensembles who have successfully created their own opportunities. The interviews reveal how entrepreneurial musicians were able to take an idea and actualize it.

Supporting Teachers to Teach about the U.S. and the Wider World
A new Global Competence Certificate (GCC), program, designed and offered by Teachers College in conjunction with World Savvy and the Asia Society, is providing in-service teachers with the tools to help their students understand the United States in the context of the wider world. The first cohort of GCC participants -- 23 in-service teachers from public, private and independent schools in nine states and the District of Columbia -- are set to begin the program September 15.Read More >>
TC a National Leader in Awarding Doctorates to Black Students
Teachers College ranks sixth among U.S. universities in granting the most doctoral degrees to black students, according to the 2014 Almanac of Higher Education released last week by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Teachers College is also the top-ranked private, not-for-profit higher educational institution in the category of black doctoral degree recipients, preceded only by historically Black institutions, a for-profit, online university, and comprehensive public universities. Read More >>

Scholar Spotlight
TC's first Peter Greeman Scholar, Edmund Adjapong (M.A. '14), is using hip-hop to engage teens in science. Tim Greeman, a former New York City teacher, created the Peter Greeman Scholarships in memory of his father. The scholarships support qualified students who commit to teach in low-income, high-need schools for at least two years. Read More >>
