A Message from Alumni Relations

Global TC Day is finally here! Our multi-week, multi-city celebration of our dynamic Teachers College community is officially underway. We have so much to celebrate this summer, as the TC campaign, "Where the Future Comes First," has soared beyond $200 million! Alumni have been instrumental in supporting the Campaign and everything TC-',-' so we hope you will come out to celebrate this great moment with us. We're excited to connect with you at a variety of events for alumni, family, students and friends in approximately 40 cities in 13+ different countries around the globe. We urge all of you to get involved by seeking out an event near you, or even offering to host one in your area. Alumna Performs in Show Produced by Damon and Affleck
Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni (M.A. '97) is the writer, performer and co-producer behind One Drop of Love, a multimedia solo show co-produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. One Drop of Love is a funny, interactive and moving performance that explores history, family, race, class, justice and love, aiming to answer the question of how our belief in race affects our most intimate relationships. The show is currently traveling around the U.S., and was recently attended in California by several other TC Alumni. View the show's trailer here>>

TC Staff and Faculty to Attend Global TC Day Events
Several TC staff and faculty members will be on-hand as our alumni and students gather around the world to celebrate Teachers College and connect with one another. Notable attendees will include Suzanne Murphy (M.E. '99), TC Vice President for Development and External Affairs, Rosella Garcia, TC Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Cheng Davis, TC Special Advisor to the President for International Advocacy in Tokyo and Taipei; A. Lin Goodwin (Ed.D. '87), Vice Dean, Professor of Education and Co-Director of the joint program with TC and NIE in Singapore; Noah Drezner in Paris; TC Dean and Provost Tom James in St. Paul; Jessica Riccio (Ed.D. '08), lecturer in the Mathematics Science & Technology department in Teaneck; and TC Director of College Event Planning Trish McNicholas in Miami. Don't miss these wonderful opportunities to get to know these key members of our TC faculty and staff.

TC Faculty in the News
TC's Derald W Sue, Professor of Psychology and Education and author of the recent "Race Talk and the Conspiracy of Silence:  Understanding and Facilitating Difficult Dialogues on Race"  (John Wiley & Sons, 2015) discussed the Rachel Dolezal case on CNN. Sue has done substantial research on racial and ethnic identity and microagressions and published numerous books on the topic. Sue was also quoted recently in BloombergView regarding microaggressions on university campuses. To view Sue's CNN interview, click here. | Faculty member Noah Drezner, Associate Professor of Higher Education, has received the John Grenzebach Award for Outstanding Research in Philanthropy for Educational Advancement from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in recognition of "The Social Base of Philanthropic Fundraising in Higher Education: How Frames and Identity Matter." Drezner's research seeks to understand the correlations between donors' identities and their likelihood to give to higher education (and at what level). TC Launches NTN@TC
With early career attrition continuing to plague our nation's schools. TC has launched the New Teacher Network at TC (NTN@TC). The unique professional development program will expand and deepen TC's support of education students as they transition to the pre-K-12 classroom by providing recent TC graduates with mentoring, practical resources and opportunities to collaborate with TC colleagues in the critical first three years of teaching. Current NTN@TC members from English Ed, Social Studies Ed, Science & Math Ed departments members are building publication projects into their classrooms, sharing ideas in an online forum, and reaching out with needs as they come up. Summer can be a very quiet time for job searching, but it is also a crucial time for making contacts and staying on top of networking. Don't fall into radio silence over summer break; instead, make a commitment to building your network and connecting with other TC Alumni in your area by attending Global TC Day events. These worldwide, locally-hosted gatherings are invaluable opportunities to meet with alumni and friends and re-connect with the diverse Teachers College community. In the meantime, be sure to check out the newest collaboration between the  the Office of Career Services and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Online Career Development Speaker Series, a free series offered exclusively to Teachers College alumni and brought to you by the 21st Century Leaders Committee and Alumni Council.  We are  seeking speakers from a variety of career backgrounds to share their approaches and tips for navigating today's employment world. Alumni Creations | #TCMade

Alumnus Keiichi Ogawa (Ph.D. '99) recently published Comparative Analysis on Universal Primary Education Policy and Practice in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Cases of Ghana, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda, based on five years of case studies and research reviewing the expansion of primary education, policies prompting free primary education intervention and the challenges of implementation in four African nations.

Aurelie Athan (Ph.D. '11), Full-Time Lecturer and Program Coordinator of the Master's Program in the Department of Clinical Psychology, and fellow alumna Heather L. Reel (M.A. '14) published Maternal Psychology: Reflections on the 20th anniversary of deconstructing developmental psychology in Feminism & Psychology. Based on their efforts to critically examine the dominant theories of psychology that pervade their classrooms research, the commentary also addresses the emerging field of maternal psychology as an outgrowth of the intersection of feminist, clinical, and developmental disciplines.
