A Message from Alumni Relations            

We are so excited to announce the return of Global TC Day to our summer programming! Last celebrated back in 2013 for TC's 125th Anniversary, Global TC Day helps us build and strengthen our TC Network around the world with a series of exciting events.  Global TC Day events provide exceptional opportunities for us to reconnect with our international alumni and for you to connect with fellow alumni living and working near you. Get involved by attending or even helping to coordinate an event in your area! Global TC Day festivities will include meet-ups all around the world, both formal and informal, hosted by regional TC alumni. These summer events, taking place between July 20 and August 1, 2015, will also include current students home for break, as well as newly admitted students who are preparing to move to New York and begin their tenure at TC. If you are interested in hosting an event or in helping to plan one of these exciting gatherings, email the Office of Alumni Relations at tcalumni@tc.edu with the subject "Global TC Day." TC Celebrates the  Legacy of Morton Deutsch
In April, the Morton Deutsch International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution (MD-ICCCR) at TC celebrated preeminent psychologist and Professor Emeritus Morton Deutsch's 95th birthday, his work and legacy over four decades. With his wisdom, keen intellect and humanity, and through his extensive research on cooperation and competition, conflict resolution and social justice, Deutsch has deeply impacted countless students, many of whom spearheaded the celebratory event in his honor.     Korea 125th Anniversary Scholarship Fund
Following a visit by TC President Susan Fuhrman to Seoul in December 2014, Dr. Kim led a unique "crowd donation" by Korean alumni that resulted in $120,000 in pledges to the Korea 125th Anniversary Scholarship Fund and has inspired similar efforts from alumni in other countries. TC Establishes New Resilience Center for Veterans
Thanks to a generous $1 Million gift from new Teachers College donors David and Maureen O'Connor, TC will create the new Teachers College Resilience Center for Veterans & Families. The Center will bring together one of the world's foremost authorities on human emotional resilience, Dr. George Bonanno, TC's Dean Hope Center for Educational and Psychological Services, which serves low-income and minority families, and TC doctoral student Joseph Geraci whose combat experience has led him to study a potentially groundbreaking new approach to helping veterans transition back to civilian life. Spirituality at TC
Dr. Lisa Miller, Professor of Psychology and Education and Director of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology, and Director of TC's Spirituality Mind Body Institute (SMBI) released her new book, The Spiritual Child: The New Science on Parenting for Health and Lifelong Thriving, from St. Martin's Press in May. Since the book's release, The Spiritual Child has been covered in The Washington Post and The New York Times, among other publications. The TC Community celebrated Dr. Miller's latest accomplishment on campus May 12 with a book signing and talk. If you were unable to attend the May event, you can still catch Dr. Miller as one of the keynote speakers at SMBI's upcoming Spiritual Life Conference: Learning and Growth across the Lifespan, taking place on June 20.

We are looking forward to kicking off summer with our alumni at a Networking Happy Hour in NYC on June 24. Join Teachers College Career Services and the Office of Alumni Relations for this fun, casual gathering.
                     
In addition, we are excited to announce another collaboration between the  the Office of Career Services and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Online Career Development Speaker Series, a free series offered exclusively to Teachers College alumni and brought to you by the 21st Century Leaders Committee and Alumni Council.  We are currently seeking speakers from a variety of career backgrounds to share their approaches and tips for navigating today's employment world. TC Fund: Scholar Spotlight
Annual gifts in support of financial aid from our alumni reflect a strong investment in TC's most valuable asset -- our promising students like Annual Fund scholar Bianca Passos. Bianca is a master's student in TC's Nutrition Education program, housed in the Department of Health and Behavior Sciences. Thanks to alumni donor Borinquen Rodriquez Lugton (M.A. '55), a part of Bianca's financial aid package this academic year was underwritten by the TC Fund. "This annual fund scholarship is very meaningful to me because without the generosity of  Mrs. Rodriquez Lugton, attending TC would be a financial challenge. Coming from an immigrant family with one parent who never attended college and another who shifted career trajectories due to the economic restraints, receiving a high quality education has always been a priority for my family and me. This scholarship makes that dream a reality and further motivates me to work hard as a tribute to my family and as a symbol of gratitude to Mrs. Rodriguez Lugton."

Alumni Creations | #TCMade

Nick Sousanis' (Ed.D. '14) thesis, Unflattening, considered the first dissertation presented entirely in comic book format, has been published by Harvard University Press. The project was recently profiled in the Calgary Herald.

 Beatrice Bridglall (Ed.D. '04) is the editor of the recently published Promoting Global Competence and Social Justice in Teacher Education, a book about internationalizing teacher education.

Ron Verdicchio (Ed.D. '82), a professor at William Paterson University, co-authored Images of America: Prospect Park, along with six of his students. The book grew out of an ethnographic field study investigating the degree of cultural change that Prospect Park has experienced.
