Roger Anderson -'" Professor of Natural Sciences; Chair, TC's Department of Math, Science & Technology; researcher at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory -'" has bridged bench science and science education. n Anderson is a leading authority on plankton,including those that reflect ocean temperature change -'" but he's also recognized as the first, and currently leading,science educator to apply cognitive and neuroscience theory in research on science learning and thinking. He co-developed an early online science program that challenged students to use real-world data. He devises ways to enhance students' mental mapping of information. He co-founded a unique program for educators in dentistry. "TC people serve their disciplines, but also seek to improve society," Anderson says. He has set the bar.
