CCRC's Tom Bailey in the Washington Post: "Guided Pathways" Needed to Boost Community College Student Success
In a May 12, 2015 Washington Post Op-Ed, "Rethinking the 'Cafeteria' Approach to Community College," TC Community College Resource Center (CCRC) Director Thomas Bailey argues that in order to substantially increase student completion, community colleges must engage in fundamental redesign.
His argument summarizes the thesis of the new book Redesigning America's Community Colleges: A Clearer Path to Student Success in which Bailey, Shanna Smith Jaggars, and Davis Jenkins advocate for a shift from today's “cafeteria” or “self-service” model of education to a "guided pathways" model that provides more individual direction and support for students.
