 The Office of Alumni Relations is bringing Teachers College to You! We know you can't always be in New York so we're taking some of TC's leadership -- faculty and staff alike -- on the road. Together, we will provide the best and latest news in faculty research and exciting information and insights on the current trends in learning. Keep an eye on our event calendar as events pop up regularly. This fall we're already heading to Orlando, Seattle, the Bay Area, Sao Pulo, Rio de Janiero, Philadelphia, Scottsdale, Denver and London! You can also join us virtually each month as part of our career development webinar series. Be a part of all that TC has to offer on and off campus. We hope to see you at our next event near you.

William Campbell (M.A. '64) received a 2015 Columbia Alumni Medal. Alumni Medalists are recognized for building Columbia's community-'"whether regionally, online, in specific schools, or in cross-campus initiatives.
John King (Ed.D. '08) has been named U.S. Secretary of Education. He will succeed Arne Duncan, who has held the post since 2008. As New York State Commissioner of Education from May 2011 to January 2015, King presided over New York's rollout of the Common Core State Standards and championed the Dignity Act, which sought to prevent bullying in schools. He left earlier this year to become a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Education. In 2012, King received TC's Distinguished Alumni Award, presented at the College's Academic Festival. He was also interviewed for TC's Oral History project and featured in the College's 2013 web series, "Mini-Moments with Big Thinkers."

Alumna Belinda Miles (Ed.D. '00) was inaugurated as the third president of Westchester Community College on Friday. Many alumni were among her honored guests celebrating alongside her including TC President Susan Fuhrman (Ph.D. '77) and Marcia Keizs (Ed.D. '84), President of York College, in addition to her dissertation advisor Sharon McDade, a former faculty of TC's Higher Education program. The TC legacy is long and strong at WCC where Joseph Hankin (Ed.D. '67) served as the president for 42 years - the longest tenure held in a US Community College. Miles mentioned the impact Teachers College has made in her career as an educator and leader.

Driven by the essential question, "If one could design any school to foster the best prepared students in the world, what would it look like?" Jeff Wetzler (Ed.D. '13), recently co-founded Transcend, a nonprofit that leads innovation in school design in close partnership with visionary school operators around the country. Transcend focuses on innovation in every aspect of the holistic design of schools - from the aims of school, to students' experience, to the use of time, to the roles of educators and families and surrounding communities, to physical space, and much more - to prepare all students for far greater success in the 21st century.

 Where the Future Comes First
TC's Where the Future Comes First Campaign has raised a record $218 million toward our $300 million goal. Be on the lookout tomorrow, 10/7, as we launch a new campaign website showcasing all that we've accomplished and the ways you can join in! Share your TC story, tell us what you think about important issues of the day, or volunteer and help shape alumni programming. Share the news on social media using #TCFutureFirst.  TC to Present "A&H in the City"
Event Series for Arts and Humanities Alumni
The department of Arts & Humanities is excited to announce its new initiative, "A&H in the City," a free event series for A&H alumni. "A&H in the City" will host two interactive events per semester combining intellectual engagement, social connection, and innovative programming. Events will provide opportunities to connect with fellow alumni, engage with current faculty, and soak in all that premiere cultural institutions such as The Museum of The City of New York, Alvin Ailey Dance Center, and Jazz at Lincoln Center have to offer. The first event will take place on November 7th from 1-4pm at the beautiful Museum of the City of New York. Find more info and to RSVP, please go here.

This year we will alternate our networking events - networking breakfasts dates are Nov. 3, Feb. 2, and Apr. 5; networking nights are Dec. 1, Mar. 1 and May 3. Co-hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Office of Career Services.

Meet Kena Gibson
With a University Math instructor for a father, new student Kena Gibson, our 2015-16 Lily E. Christ and Duane M. Christ Annual Fund Scholar, always had a passion for mathematics. Her love of math led her to TC to pursue her Ed.D. in Mathematics Education at Teachers College. She says "Being a student at Teachers College has made a monumental impression on me and I will be a better mathematics teacher and overall citizen due to my encounters here." Shokry Eldaly II (M.A. '11) published in an anthology titled The City that Never Sleeps: Poems of New York alongside writers that include Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Maya Angelou, Lorca, Adonis, e.e. cummings, Ginsberg, and Walt Whitman.
Elizabeth Upton (M.A. '89) wrote Maxi the Little Taxi - a children's book to be published in 2016.
Sean K. Murphy (M.A. '13) has invented a new patent-pending personality assessment tool called the Primal Personality Assessment (TM) and it identifies motivations - the drivers of human behavior and decision making.
