On Fox News in Austin, Texas, TC’s Luis Huerta discusses Texas legislation that would provide taxpayer-funded scholarships or vouchers to special needs students to attend a private school of their choice. The State Senate’s Education Committee passed a bill that would give up to $10,000 to each special education student.

Interviewed by Fox 7 in Austin, Huerta said the bill would not prevent private schools from charging families additional amounts for extra services provided to special education students. And, says Huerta, an Associate Professor of Education Policy, “when it comes to the actual instruction, we have no public accounting of the quality of special-ed services provided by private schools.”

Studies show that children who used public vouchers to attend private schools do not perform better than other students in Milwaukee, Cleveland and Washington, D.C.
