TC’s Sam Abrams: Push in Nevada for Vouchers for All Parents Could Spread to Other States
In an interview with WBUR, Boston's NPR radio station, TC's Sam Abrams says a proposal in Nevada courts to extend private school vouchers to all parents, regardless of income, could spread to other states.
Abrams tells Jeremy Hobson of WBUR's "Here and Now" that he agrees with advocates of vouchers and charter schools -- which are more popular than vouchers -- that they give parents more choice. "The big question is, does it provide choice for better education? Or is it just a different door that students are going through, but the education isn’t necessarily better — and sometimes might be inferior — than what students would get at their default neighborhood public school?”
Abrams is director of TC's National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education and author of Education and the Commercial Mindset, published in 2016 by Harvard University Press.
