Dear TC Community:
On May 3, 2018, the Teachers College Board of Trustees voted to revoke the Teachers College Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to William H. Cosby, Jr. in 1998. Mr. Cosby’s conduct, including the multiple counts of sexual assault for which he was recently convicted, makes it obvious that his name does not have a place in the storied history of the TC Medal, and that he does not deserve to be associated with the other impressive men and women who have received the Medal. Mr. Cosby’s actions violate TC’s core values, which include a commitment to providing a learning, working, and living environment free from harassment and gender-based misconduct.
William D. Rueckert, Chair of the Board of Trustees
