The school system in Camden, New Jersey, has improved in recent years, but it’s still looking for answers to gang violence, struggling students and a host of other problems. Teachers College alumna Katrina McCombs (M.A, ’96), the city’s new superintendent of schools, is a proud graduate of the system and has worked there as an educator for the past 25 years. In an article in New Jersey Spotlight, McCombs, who earned her TC degree in psychology, talks about her strategic plan, which she calls “Putting Students First.”
