Monday, January 20th, National Public Radio’s “Here and Now” will recap “The Next Wave in K-12 Education: The Spiritual Core of the Whole Child,” a conference on spirituality and education that took place at Teachers College on November 3 and 4, 2019.
The “Here and Now” website lists stations and air times in the metropolitan area and across the country. The full show will be posted on the “Here and Now” archive within a few hours of the broadcast.
The segment includes interviews by “Here and Now” host Robin Young with several of the conference’s speakers, including Steven Rockefeller, Director of Rockefeller Philanthropic Advisors and Professor Emeritus of Middlebury College, who coordinated the drafting of the Earth Charter for the Earth Charter Commission and Earth Council.
Organized by the Teachers College-based Collaborative for Spirituality in Education, the “The Next Wave in K-12 Education: The Spiritual Core of the Whole Child,” explored the idea of spirituality of the whole child as the next frontier for TC as a force for transforming the field of education. Through this event and a previous conference at TC, Lisa Miller, Professor Psychology & Education, has kicked off a global movement to explore the idea that children are innately spiritual and benefit from exploring spirituality at school.
