Dear Members of the Teachers College Community,
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Tani Castañeda will be joining Teachers College at the end of November as the new Associate Vice President and Chief Enrollment Officer. Tani will lead TC’s marketing and recruitment strategy as well as continuing student enrollment services, by overseeing the offices of Admission and New Student Enrollment, Financial Aid Operations, the Office of the Registrar, Enrollment Marketing, and Strategic Enrollment Communications and Research.
Tani comes to Teachers College with a wealth of experience, bringing an extensive background in enrollment management, outstanding leadership skills and experience, and an impressive set of accomplishments in creating data-driven enrollment strategies and cultivating productive, collaborative partnerships to achieve the institution’s enrollment goals.
Over the last 11 years, as Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management at Rutgers University, Tani strategically managed recruitment, marketing, communications, admissions, enrollment research/analytics, and led successful collaborations between the enrollment management division and other university partners. Taking a multifaceted approach to enrollment strategy, Tani set and met enrollment targets for nine academic colleges with more than 100 degree programs, balancing Chancellor-level goals with the individual objectives of the academic colleges. Tani has also made great strides in the area of financial aid by leading the design and implementation of an $11 million annual scholarship program for the colleges. She aligned strategies for need-based and merit-based aid to create more holistic and competitive financial aid packages, and helped expedite the distribution of financial aid packages to students by almost two months from previous years.
Most notably, Tani’s proven track record of outstanding tactical leadership will be instrumental here at TC as we elevate this role to the senior leadership team and shift toward more strategic management of our enrollment. She notes: “I am thrilled to be joining the Teachers College community, an institution at the forefront of scholarship in education, psychology and health, and one that has had principles of justice and equity instilled in its core mission since its founding. I look forward to leading the enrollment division with the fine team already in place and in close collaboration with faculty and administrators to advance our strategic goals and student success together at TC.”
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Amy Greenstein, our former Vice Provost for Enrollment, who laid a strong foundation through her rigorous, expert leadership of the enrollment division from 2017 to the spring of 2020. I would also like to recognize Amy Anderson, who has served as interim Vice Provost of Enrollment since March of this year, working tirelessly to keep our enrollments stable despite such unprecedented circumstances. And, of course, a special thank you to the enrollment team, without whom none of this would have been possible.
I invite you to join me in warmly welcoming Tani to Teachers College.
Thomas Bailey
