Dear Members of the TC Community,

This week, we have been closely monitoring the news about increasing COVID-19 cases in New York City and beyond. We want to reassure you that although we have seen a slight uptick in the past two weeks, to 12 cases last week and five cases this week, TC’s COVID-19 cases remain very low and there has been no evidence of secondary spread on campus. Given these positive indicators, any remaining in-person classes or exams this semester will take place as planned.

There has been evidence of some limited secondary spread at off-campus social gatherings. To avoid a similar situation on campus, we will suspend all in-person events and campus visitors, effective tomorrow, December 17. If you have planned an in-person event for the end of the semester, you must either cancel it or move to a virtual format. We also strongly advise anyone planning a TC event off campus to do the same.

Remember, students, faculty and staff working or attending classes/exams on campus must wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, and be mindful of physical distance. As we emphasized in last week’s Preparedness email, the Omicron variant is on the rise and there is an increased need for caution over winter break. Many of us will be traveling and visiting loved ones and we must do our part to slow the spread of the virus in our extended communities. We recommend getting a COVID-19 test before and after any planned travel, or if you find yourself in a situation where there is a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

We will continue to monitor cases of COVID-19 on campus and update you on any changes to our Spring 2022 policies and procedures. We are grateful for your patience and understanding as we adjust course during an ever-evolving situation.

Sincerely,

Lisa Seales
