Dear Members of the TC Community,

I am delighted to announce that Nancy Lesko, the Maxine Greene Professor for Distinguished Contributions to Education and Chair of the Department of Curriculum & Teaching, has been appointed as interim Executive Editor of the Teachers College Record, effective July 1, 2022.

Nancy is retiring from the faculty on August 31, 2022, and we are thrilled she will be bringing her broad and deep expertise in curriculum and teaching, her extensive scholarship and her exceptional administrative skills to lead the TC Record and continue evolving the journal’s tremendous reputation and legacy. The Record — a monthly peer-reviewed journal of research, analysis and commentary — has been published continuously by the College since 1900 and is the nation’s oldest journal devoted to education and educational research. As Executive Editor, Nancy will oversee the mission and scope of the journal and partner with the associate editors and the editorial advisory board to enhance its vision by articulating values regarding priority topics and establishing standards of scholarship and methods and structure of outreach and output.

Nancy will be building on the great work of TC Record’s current editor, Michelle Knight-Manuel, who has increased the journal’s focus on equity, inclusion and justice, invited more diverse and international authors to contribute and expanded the Record’s regions and topics of focus, recently publishing an issue on rural education and growing its coverage of higher education and international education. Michelle has also continued the innovations of the Record’s prior editor, Gary Natriello, who introduced new mediums for sharing research with invaluable short videos in which authors discuss the main ideas of their articles.

Nancy joined Teachers College in 1998 as an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum & Teaching. She has been a full professor in the department since 2002, became the inaugural Maxine Greene Chair in 2004 and has been the department chair for the past three years. She was the recipient of the Fulbright New Century Scholars Award in 2005, the Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowship in 2004 and has edited or authored six books and dozens of articles, reviews and book chapters.

Please join me in extending our gratitude to Michelle for her leadership of the Record over the past three years and our warmest congratulations to Nancy as she takes the helm of this esteemed journal. I know her passion and vision will take the TC Record in exciting directions so that it continues to be an essential resource for the field in understanding and addressing the most pressing issues facing schools and educators today.
