Amanda Flynn

Voice

Amanda is a Broadway voice teacher and trainer with clients performing on Broadway, Off Broadway, national and international tours, regional theatre, and working as recording artists. In 2019, Amanda was the Production Vocal Coach for The Lightning Thief and Be More Chill, both on Broadway. She also served as a Vocal Consultant for the regional premiere of Love in Hate Nation at Two River Theatre. As a Singing Voice Specialist, she frequently works with injured singers, collaborating with laryngologists and voice therapists across the country. Some performing credits include the LA company of Wicked and the Las Vegas company of Mamma Mia. Amanda holds a MM in Vocal Performance with a Musical Theatre concentration and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy, both from NYU. She completed the Vocology Mentorship at Mt. Sinai, the Distinguished Voice Professional certificate from NYSTA, and completed her Certificate in Vocology from NCVS. A recipient of the Van Lawrence Fellowship, Amanda is an active voice researcher and has presented at conferences across the country. She serves on the board of directors for NYSTA as the Director of the Professional Development Program and on several committees for PAVA.

Robin Freeman

Conducting, Voice

A singer trained in musical theater, classical, and jazz vocal styles, Robin has performed across the United States and internationally with stage credits including Bernard Rands’ Vincent (world premiere) and The Secret Garden (Mary Lennox). Her musical and acting experience also includes Off-Broadway and television productions. She is a founding member of Carnelian, a collective vocal quartet that explores contemporary social issues through the intersection of music, poetry, and visual art.  

A conductor with more than a decade of classroom and studio teaching experience, she draws on Laban Movement Analysis and Alexander Technique to help conductors of all levels express their musical ideas with passion and physical freedom. She appeared as assistant conductor and opera chorus master for critically-acclaimed productions with The Princeton Festival. In addition to creating innovative concert programs and directing on tour, Robin has also recorded three studio albums of choral music, commissioning and premiering works by living composers.   

Robin is a lifelong learner with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Gordon College, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Indiana University, and a Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she is currently completing the Doctor of Education in College Teaching of Music.

John Gavalchin

Piano

John Gavalchin has performed internationally as concert pianist throughout North and South America. A critically acclaimed pianist, his solo recital at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina prompted an invitation from the Colon’s director for a concerto performance with orchestra. He has also been the guest artist for the International Music Festival at the Domain Forget in Quebec, Canada. Concert tours have included several radio and television appearances. In New York, he has performed on WQXR’s Listening Room radio program with Robert Sherman. He frequently appears as soloist and with ensembles in the northeast U. S.

A Ph.D. graduate of New York University, Dr. Gavalchin’s dissertation “Temporality in Music: a conceptual model based on the phenomenology of Paul Ricoeur” received the departmental award for outstanding dissertation in the field of music. Dr. Gavalchin also received Bachelor and Master Degrees from the Juilliard School as a piano student of Mme. Ania Dorfmann. He was also a pupil of the renowned Russian pianist and pedagogue Alexander Eydelmann, who was a student of Felix Blumenfeld (teacher of Vladimir Horowitz). Eydelmann was also the teaching assistant of Heinrich Neuhaus, (professor of the legendary Russian pianists Emil Gilels and Sviatoslav Richter) at the Moscow Conservatory. Dr. Gavalchin’s other notable teacher was the important American teacher and pedagogue Dorothy Taubmann.

Dr. Gavalchin also teaches piano at the College of Saint Elizabeth and is Adjunct Professor of Music at Iona College. He has given piano master classes in the U.S. and abroad.

Jeanne Goffi-Fynn

Voice (Soprano)

Jeanne Goffi-Fynn is active both as a performer and teacher in the New York City area. Dr. Goffi-Fynn received her Doctorate from Columbia University, Teachers College where she also serves as director of the Doctoral Cohort Program in the Music and Music Education program. Her particular area of interest at Columbia is the applied music studio. Previously, she was on the faculty of New York University, the New School Actor's Studio M.F.A. Program, William Paterson University, and The American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She credits the beginning of her teaching career to Dr. Barbara Doscher (author of The Functional Unity of the Singing Voice) with whom she studied voice and pedagogy in at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She continues working in the area of Vocology, specifically in the area of retraining of singers, after completing an internship at the Grabscheid Voice Center, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City with Dr. Linda Carroll, Ph.D. and Dr. Peak Woo, M.D. She has also trained at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital with Dr. Anat Keidar, Ph.D. in the diagnosis and treatment of singing voice disorders. She has presented workshops and masterclasses with NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), The Voice Foundation, and the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA).

Dr. Goffi-Fynn also remains active as a performer in the New York City area. She is most active as a recitalist, singing a variety of programs often with newly commissioned works. Operatic roles sung recently include Marie in Daughter of the Regiment (updated version) with Opera Nova, Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann). Concert and oratorio performances include the Cantata Singers (NYC), and Temple Emmanu-El (NYC) while performances in Europe include the Lugano Radio Orchestra (Switzerland) and the Rumanian Radio Orchestra in a tour of Northern Italy. She has also studied and performed at the Zurich Opera Studio and with the American Institute of Musical Studies(A.I.M.S.) in Graz, Austria.

Jeanne is also a board member of New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA) and a co-director of their Professional Development Program, a course of voice studies NYSTA offers now in conjunction with Teachers College, Columbia University. More information may be found at NYST.org.

Andrew Henderson

Organ

Andrew Henderson is Director of Music & Organist at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, where he oversees an extensive liturgical and choral program, including the Saint Andrew Chorale, the New York City Children’s Chorus, in addition to the Saint Andrew Music Society’s Music on Madison series. He also serves as the Associate Organist at New York City’s Temple Emanu-El, as a member of the organ faculty at the Manhattan School of Music, and as the organ instructor at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Dr. Henderson, a native of Thorold, Ontario, holds degrees in music from Cambridge and Yale Universities, and in 2007 he was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Juilliard School. He was a finalist in the international competition Grand Prix de Chartres in 2002, and won first prize in the Royal Canadian College of Organists’ National Organ Playing Competition in 2003. Recent performances include organ and continuo playing with the New York Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sacra, Voices of Ascension, The Oratorio Society of New York and The Collegiate Chorale, and solo recitals in Poland, Canada, and throughout the USA. His first solo CD, Andrew Henderson at St. John’s, Elora, was released in 2010. Peter Holsberg

Trumpet

Peter Holsberg is an active freelance trumpeter in the New York area who has led an eclectic performing career. Dr. Holsberg has performed with Broadway Shows in New York City and on the road, salsa bands, orchestras, and commercial bands. Currently Dr. Holsberg holds the position of Arts Director and Chair of Music at The Berkeley Carroll School, an independent school in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Holsberg holds degrees from Duquesne University, Stony Brook University, and a M.Ed. and Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Sookie Huang

Piano

Sookie, 27 years old, graduated in Music Therapy and Music Education at SUNY at Fredonia, a small beautiful school of music. She began studying dulcimer at age 3 and piano at age 7. At 13, she won the top gold prize at the National Dulcimer Competition. At 15, she began teaching beginner dulcimer to children. At 19, she founded a music education business, where she personally taught introductory piano and music theory. By 20, Sookie had established her own dulcimer chamber ensemble. At 22, she was selected as a member of the Chinese National Orchestra Association. At 23, she received the Outstanding Instructor Award. Passionate about global dulcimer promotion, she performed at the Vienna Golden Hall in 2009, participated in cultural exchanges with Kuching High School, Malaysia in 2014 and 2016, and held a dulcimer concert at the Eastman School of Music in 2019. Embracing a joyful teaching philosophy, Sookie strives to help students discover the fun in music and express their unique musical styles.

Richard Jacobowski

Guitar

American guitarist Richard Jacobowski received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in guitar performance from Manhattan School of Music in 1993. As a student, he was chosen to perform for the great master, Andres Segoviaand soon afterward was awarded the prestigious Andres Segovia Award for Outstanding Guitar Performance. Richard has given numerous performances on Public Radio FM-WNYC and on many concert stages in NYC, includingfour critically acclaimed recitals at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. These concerts were presented by the American Institute of Guitar, Gateway Classics and the Aranjuez Strings, New Talent of the Guitar Series. In Europe, he has given concerts and adjudicated guitar competitions at music festivals throughout Spain, Italy, Poland, Lithuania, and in France at the International Festival of Guitar, lle deRe, 2002. His work as a chamber musician brought him to Lithuania as part of the Pazaislio Music Festival, 1999. As a teacher, Richard was Director of Guitar Studies at William Paterson University for ten years. He is currently on the faculty of Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. Articles by and interviews with Jacobowski have appeared in Soundboard, 20th Century Guitar, and La Guitarra.

Maggie Jin - Maggie Jin

Maggie Jin

Voice

Maggie Jin is a dedicated music teacher, pianist, and vocalist based in New York. She began studying piano at four and voice at thirteen, earning numerous awards in international piano and local voice competitions. Maggie holds a Bachelor of Music degree from NYU.

During her college years, Maggie started her music education career, teaching piano and voice. Her students have been accepted into prestigious institutions like the Manhattan School of Music. In 2021, she served as the music director and vocal coach for NYU's production of "Dear Evan Hansen."

In May 2022, Maggie completed the Orff Music Education Level 1 certification and received her New York State Music Teacher Certification in October 2022. The following year, she was the keyboardist and vocal coach for Columbia University's musical "The Murder of Hanging Garden."

Currently, Maggie holds a Master of Arts degree and is pursuing a Master of Education at Columbia University. She serves as a studio lessons teacher with Music To Your Home, and as a vocal coach and special music education consultant for Every Voice Choir (EVC). She has performed twice with EVC at Carnegie Hall. Additionally, she was the co-president of the Columbia University Teachers College Chinese Students and Scholars Association from 2023 to 2024 and teaches elementary music at the Teachers College Community School.

Darryl Jordan

Voice

Darryl Jordan, conductor/singer/songwriter, holds a B.S. and M.M. in Music Education from NYU and Boston University, respectively. He is currently pursuing his E.D.D. in Music Education from Teachers College. He is an Adjunct Professor of Voice and Conductor at Nyack College. He trains multi-faceted young singers in Harlem as the Chair of Vocal Music at the Urban Assembly School for Performing Arts. Desiring to “develop singers for every stage,” he has spent the past twenty five years training singers and conducting choirs in Maryland, D.C., and New York for everything from classical to jazz. His students have performed everywhere from major concert halls, a host of churches, community centers, and public events!  Most recently, he performed with the Broadway Inspirational Voices with Patti LuPone at David Geffen Hall. Thanking God for his own musical gift, he seeks to empower the community through the gift of song. A Four-time Apollo Amateur Night Winner and sought after singer, he will release his new album, TIME, later this year.

Hila Katz

Harpsichord, Piano

Harpsichordist Hila Katz has over 15 years’ experience teaching harpsichord, piano, historical keyboards, and ensembles. Trained in piano and harpsichord, Hila studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where she completed a Master’s degree in Harpsichord Performance and an additional Certificate of Advanced Studies. She continued her studies at Trinity College of Music, London, where she specialized in the late Renaissance/early Baroque period. In addition to filling the post of Church Organist at St Paul’s Church, Bow Common, Hila has performed a wide range of solo and chamber/orchestral repertoire on early keyboard Instruments, from 16th-century secular and sacred music to orchestral works of the high Baroque and the Classical period – as well as accompanying master classes given by Dame Emma Kirkby, and exploring innovative programs dealing with improvisation in late Renaissance music. Hila’s debut recital as a harpsichordist, which included her own compositions, was part of the British Harpsichord Society series of solo recitals at the Handel House. 

Hila has taught music in England, Israel, The Netherlands and Canada, in primary and secondary schools and in post-secondary institutions. After years of teaching applied music in private practice, Hila moved to Amsterdam and founded the Pegasus School for Early Music. The school provided studies in historical performance for both adults and children, and prepared musicians for academic studies in music. The teaching staff included leading musicians in the field of historical performance. Hila served as the school's artistic and administrative director; her roles included teaching keyboard, ensembles, and theoretical classes, assisting pupils with their curriculum, organizing concerts, supervising and giving lectures, presentations and master classes.

Katie Kresek

The first American woman to win a Tony Award for Best Orchestrations, Katie Kresek’s dynamic career as performer, creator, and educator is defined by versatility and multi-genre musical artistry. She is currently the concertmaster and co-orchestrator of Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. She holds both a Masters and Doctorate in Education from Columbia University, Teachers College. For six years, she was an Adjunct Associate Professor at St. John’s University, serving as an instructor of violin and viola. From 2016 to 2021, she served as the Community Liaison for the Teaching Artist Community at Teachers College, where she mentored teaching artists on expanding their practice. As a violin teacher, she studied violin pedagogy with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, and was a teaching assistant to Barbara Krakauer, with whom she worked closely at the Mannes College of Music in New York and at the Academie Musicale Franco-Americaine in Vaison-La-Romaine, France. Teaching classical violin as well as pop, folk and numerous other styles, she is certified in Mark O'Connor's String Method, and has taught group violin classes and designed string curriculum for many schools and cultural institutions, including The New York Philharmonic, The Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Caramoor, Ang Misyon and The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth in Manila, Dwight-Englewood School, and The Calhoun School. She has also served as a clinician for professional development workshops for Education Through Music, Inc., The Bronx Arts Ensemble, and numerous other string programs. She maintains a private studio of students who are active, leading members of student ensembles in the tri-state area and have gone on to continue their studies at the Juilliard School, Harvard University, The University of Chicago, The University of Pennsylvania, Fordham University, Smith, and Ithaca College. She has also served on the teaching faculty of the International Music Festival of Campina Grande in Brazil. More information and full bio at
