Yan Carlos Colón was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He studied classical and jazz guitar at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory where he graduated with a B.M. in Theory & Music Composition in 2010. He continued his graduate studies at the same institution where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Music Education in 2013. In 2016 he obtained his second graduate degree: Ed.M Master of Education from Columbia University. He is currently a Doctoral student at Columbia University. Yan Carlos Colón’s music work is diverse. As a performer he has worked with many artists in Puerto Rico and New York performing many genres of music from latin and jazz to electronic music and indie rock among others. As a composer, he has written music for orchestra, chamber music ensembles and solo instruments. His music has been performed in Puerto Rico, United States, and Europe. He currently lives in New York City where he works as a music school teacher in Harlem where he developed a music composition program for his students. He also works as a student instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University where he teaches guitar.
