Online grading for the Fall 2018 term opens December 5, 2018. Grades will not begin to appear on student records until late in the evening on Friday, December 28, even if you enter them before December 28. From December 29 forward, new grades entered will be posted to student records about once every 2 hours.
You may enter the grades online from any computer at any time 7 days a week except for when the system backup is performed in the early morning hours (usually from 2 A.M. to 4 A.M. daily). Browse to http://www.tc.columbia.edu/provost/onlinegrade.pdf to view instructions for entering grades online. Grades that you post in Canvas will not post to student records. For entry of official grades, you will need to use the "Enter Grades" link in the Faculty Grades channel in myTC. If you have any problems, please contact Sandra Afflick or Jose Marte.
Grades are due within 48 hours of the last class meeting for students graduating in February 2019 and within one week of the last class session for all other students. Grades are a major factor in determining satisfactory academic progress for federal financial aid, and missing grades may impact a student's ability to receive federal financial aid. Course instructors and faculty members must issue grades to all students registered for their courses or report them as non-attending to the Registrar’s Office. The Provost will be notified at the close of each grading cycle if there remain missing grades ( *) and will follow up with appropriate faculty members.

The status quo provides a comfort zone for some but a zone of discomfort for others. The A&H Department recognizes that it takes both hard thinking and work to step out of a comfort zone to innovate, and that innovation is critically important to being responsive to a changing world and a changing educational landscape.
The A&H Department also recognizes that being innovative is time-consuming, risky, and, last but not least, failure-prone.
The A&H Faculty Innovation Grant aims at supporting projects undertaken either by individual faculty or programs who have attempted to seek funding for their projects and yet failed to secure any.
This year the Department is able to provide up to 8 grants (at $1,500 each).
The Department is particularly interested in funding proposals that are:
- Interdisciplinary, involving collaboration between two or more programs
- Intra-disciplinary, crossing ‘borders’ within a program
- Inter-disciplinary and intra-disciplinary, involving curriculum restructuring and/or consolidation of faculty resources
Applications are open to all A&H faculty and comprise a one-page proposal encapsulating the following types of information:
- The context
- The essence of the project
- Previous attempts at securing funding
- The expected outcome (should funding be granted)
Applications can be submitted to the A&H Office (ahofc@tc.columbia.edu) three times a year: October 31, January 31, and April 30.
Applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee and decisions will be communicated to applicants within two weeks of submission. Grantees will expect to give a presentation on the work performed at an A&H department meeting or a similar venue.
