Summer Institute on Integration of Generative AI in Foreign Language Instruction
SUMMER INSTITUTE
Integration of Generative AI in Foreign Language Instruction
Offered by the Center for International Foreign Language Teacher Education (CIFLTE) at Teachers College, Columbia University, in partnership with Osaka Gakuin University, this three-day program examines how Generative AI can be integrated into foreign language education in principled, effective, and responsible ways.
The institute connects the use of Generative AI tools to contemporary research on language learning and teaching. Through interactive discussions, guided exploration, and hands-on design activities, participants will examine the strengths and limitations of Generative AI and consider its applications for language teaching, learning, and assessment.
Participants may attend in person at Osaka Gakuin University or join synchronously online.
What Participants Will Learn and Do
During the institute, participants will:
- Critically evaluate the capabilities and limitations of Generative AI for foreign language education;
- Explore applications of AI across language teaching, learning, and assessment;
- Consider pedagogical, ethical, and practical issues involved in AI integration;
