Applied Behavior Analysis

Welcome to the Applied Behavior Analysis program


Our program is recognized for its excellence in preparing teachers and teachers trainers to use scientific tools and effective instructional practices to accelerate all children’s educational progress, including measurable increases in enjoying learning and schooling, academic literacy, problem solving, and self-management. 

We believe that education should be first driven by the needs of students and families in terms of their contribution and access to habilitative lifestyles through the application of the basic and applied sciences of behavior.

Choose Your Degree


Our M.A. graduates are eligible for certification and/or licensure in four areas, provided that relevant oursework and experience requirements are met:

  1. Dual Certification by the State of New York as teacher of regular and special education (birth to grade 6),
  2. NYS Licensed Behavior Analyst,
  3. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and
  4. CABAS® Board Certification at various levels of competency (Behavior Analyst Teacher I, Behavior Analyst Teacher II, Behavior Analyst Master Teacher)
  5. The Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis is accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International Accreditation Board.

Our Ph.D. students engage in research on effective classroom practices, language/verbal development interventions that result in children learning to learn in different ways, observational learning, and systems-wide scientific approaches to education. Dissertations make contributions to both applied and basic science.

Doctoral students who have completed the teacher ranks are eligible for the CABAS® Advanced Board Certification as Assistant Behavior Analyst, Associate Behavior Analyst, and Senior Behavior Analyst. The Doctoral degree in Applied Behavior Analysis is accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International Accreditation Board.

Our Advanced Certificate will satisfy the coursework requirements for licensure in New York State as a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) and as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Applicants must be enrolled in a master’s program at TC or possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in an acceptable field of study from a qualifying accredited institution.
