Welcome to Guest Housing at Teachers College, Columbia University!  We offer accommodations to students, families, guests, staff, faculty members and affiliates of the Columbia community.  

We are located at 517 West 121st Street, only steps away from the Columbia University community and a short walk to local eateries, shopping areas and subway stations.

Please Note: All guests must follow TC's visitor policy in order to enter campus.

Our accommodations are available through the Office of Residential Services at Teachers College, Columbia University. We are located in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Morningside Heights.

Our Guest Housing building was built in 2004. It includes 16 guest rooms designed to bring a feeling of comfort and relaxation to our guests.

We offer 3 different types of rooms:

  1. Standard Room
    • Most rooms include 1 full size bed
    • ADA room includes 1 twin size bed
  2. Kitchenette Room
    • 2 full size beds
    • Kitchenette
  3. Apartment Room
    1. Separate bedroom with 1 full size bed
    2. Pull out couch in living room that sleeps 2
    3. Full kitchen

Each of our 16 guest rooms has all of the comforts you would expect from a hotel. Each room features:

If you have questions, please call (212) 678-3235 or e-mail housing@tc.columbia.edu from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday. During the summer months (June - August) our office closes at 1pm on Fridays.

An e-mail address is required to book a room. Guests must be a minimum of 18 years with valid photo ID to check-in. No reservations will be accepted during Thanksgiving and Winter Break.

Our rates are based on your nightly stay and the type of room you reserve.

If paying by TC index you will receive the lowest rate for that room type regardless of number of nights stayed.

Check-In: 3:00 p.m.

Guests can retrieve their room key and arrival packet from the building front desk located at 517 West, 121st Street. Guest must be a minimum of 18 years old, with a valid photo ID to check-in.

Check-Out: 10:00 a.m.

Upon departure, guests must leave their room key at the front desk in the key drop box provided.

Weekend Policy

Weekend departure and arrival will be booked and charged as three nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).  For example: If a guest checks out on Saturday, the guest will also be charged for Saturday, and Sunday night.  If a guest checks in on Saturday, the guest will also be charged for Friday night. The same applies to holidays when our office is closed.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and reductions in length of stay must be received via our portal, phone, or email before your payment due date. Once the due date has passed, the full amount paid is non-refundable and the length of stay cannot be shortened.

Payment

Guests must login to our online payment system and pay their reservation in full by the appropriate deadline:

Late Check-Out Policy

Late check-out is based on availability.  Guests interested in a late check-out should call 212-678-3235 at least one business day prior to the departure date.  Approved check-outs after 11am, but before 2pm will result in charge of half-day rate, and after 2pm will result in a charge of a full-day rate.

Luggage Storage

Guests can store luggage prior to check-in or after check-out at the Residential Services office located at 1230 Amsterdam Avenue. Call our office to inquire about hours. The office opens at 9 a.m., Monday - Friday, except for holidays.

Pets

Pets are not permitted to enter the building.

Prohibited Items

Waterbeds, open-coiled appliances, candles, incense, flammable fluids, halogen lamps, non-artificial trees, gasoline-powered or electric-powered bikes (mopeds) and motorcycles are prohibited. Lithium Ion Batteries utilized in e-bikes, scooters, and other e-mobility devices may not be stored by guest inside any residential building nor within 50 feet of a residential building.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited on the Teachers College Campus including guest rooms and within 50 feet of any buildings.

Fitness Centers

Whittier Hall (1230 Amsterdam Ave) and Bancroft Hall (509 West 121st St) have Fitness Centers that can be used by all guests. 

Heating & Cooling

Please be advised that New Res Hall has central heating and cooling that is limited to providing only one at a time. 

NYC buildings are required to provide heat from October through May. During these months the system will only blow warm air once the College switches from cooling to heating. 

Cooling is typically only available from June through September.  When possible, the College will start cooling in mid/late May.
