Volkswagen Foundation, The
Science Communication and Knowledge Transfer
The Volkswagen Foundation is dedicated to the support of the humanities and social sciences as well as science and technology in higher education and research. One of the tasks of the scientific community is to communicate its aspirations, methods and findings to the public and to reflect on them in a mutual exchange with civil society. The Volkswagen Foundation offers support to engage in such efforts. It encourages researchers to try out new forms of science communication, and it strengthens initiatives that bring academia and the public closer together by promoting the transfer of knowledge in both directions. Successful applications should not only aim at making science and scholarship more comprehensible. They should also enable the public to contribute with own ideas and suggestions as part of a reciprocal transfer. Applicants are also encouraged to collaborate with private partners and institutions from civil society as well as with professional science communicators (e.g. press offices, specialized agencies, experienced professionals, lecturers of appropriate studies). This approach should help to facilitate the exchange of know-how between researchers and communication experts to pave the way for future collaborations. Before submitting applications, contact the program director responsible for your subject area or the currently funded project.
