Fulbright

Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers

Fulbright DAI brings international primary and secondary teachers to the United States for a semester-long program to pursue individual or group projects, take courses for professional development at a host university, observe, and share their expertise with US colleagues. The Fulbright DAI Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by IREX. The program supports and promotes educator training, inquiry projects, field experience, best practice exchange, and civic and cultural activities. The application process is open annually from October to December.

Diversity

The Diversity program seeks to help diversify the next generation of college and university faculty through the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) and other pipeline programs; it also aims to strengthen institutions that improve educational attainment of historically underrepresented groups.  More generally, the Diversity grantmaking area supports projects or research focused on the relationship between diversity and learning.

Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange

Doctoral Fellowships

The core mission of Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange involves encouraging scholars at academic institutions throughout the world to undertake research projects in the humanities and social sciences that can shed new light on Chinese culture and society. The Foundation also promotes international contacts and cooperative projects with leading scholarly organizations, in order to enhance the status of Chinese culture and related research efforts. Doctoral candidates who are not Taiwanese citizens and who are enrolled in an accredited university in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, or South America may apply for financial support for writing dissertations in the field of Chinese Studies in the humanities and social sciences. Grants are available only to doctoral candidates who are neither employed nor receiving grants from other sources during the grant period. Applicants should have completed all other requirements for their Ph.D. degree, and must be in the last stage of their doctoral program. The maximum amount of each award is US$20,000, which is given for a period extending to one year. Successful candidates are expected to complete their dissertations by the end of the grant period. The grant application cycle is open annually from August to October.

American Psychological Association - Developmental Psychology

Early Career Research Grant in Developmental Psychology

The Early Career Research Grant supports the research of outstanding early-career members of Div. 7 who have not yet received any federal funding for research as a principal investigator or co-investigator. Recipients are awarded $1,000. Eligible assistant professors (pre-tenure as of Oct. 1, 2016) and postdoctoral scholars (within five years past receipt of the doctoral degree) may apply. The proposed or in-progress research must significantly advance content knowledge, methodology and/or theory in developmental psychology.

National Endowment for the Humanities

Education

The NEH Division of Education Programs supports humanities education through projects aimed primarily at program and curriculum development and through professional development opportunities for K-12 and higher education faculty. Community colleges, Historically Black colleges and universities, tribal colleges and universities, and Hispanic-serving institutions receive grants to enhance the humanities content of existing programs, develop new programs, or lay the foundation for more extensive endeavors. The division also supports creative, integrative, collaborative curricular projects at two- and four-year post-secondary institutions between the humanities, and STEM, pre-professional, and professional programs in law, the health sciences, etc. Finally, the division’s veterans-centered program supports institutions interested in designing and implementing discussions programs that explore the experiences of war and military service through the examination of humanities texts and other resources.

English Language Fellow Program

Through the English Language Fellow (EL Fellow) Program, highly qualified U.S. educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) participate in 10-month-long fellowships at academic institutions throughout the world. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $3,500, a living allowance, a travel allowance ($1,000), a dependent allowance ($500/month), and supplementary health coverage. The EL Fellow Program fosters mutual understanding, promotes English language learning, and enhances English teaching capacity abroad. Through projects sponsored by U.S. embassies, EL Fellows share their professional expertise, hone their skills, gain international experience and learn about other cultures. EL Fellows model and demonstrate up-to-date TEFL classroom practices that help foster thoughtful and responsible behavior in students and teachers of English. The application period is open annually from September to July. The priority deadline to receive consideration for all available projects is December, with project matching occurring on a rolling basis until the deadline closes in July.

English Language Specialist Program

The U.S. Department of State's English Language Specialist Program recruits U.S. academics and professionals in the fields of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Applied Linguistics, or related fields to conduct programs overseas ranging from two weeks to three months. The English Language Specialists assist U.S. Embassies in delivering and maintaining quality English language programs overseas and promoting mutual understanding between the U.S. and other countries. U.S. Embassies identify and define the English Language Specialist assignments, which may include teacher training, curriculum and textbook development, or host institution program evaluation. In some cases, digital video conferences or webinars are used to deliver trainings or consultations.

Environmental Humanities Visiting Research Fellowship

Throughout the year, IASH hosts a lively scholarly community of visiting fellows. It is a supportive environment for postdoctoral researchers, while also attracting successful mid-career and eminent senior scholars. Visiting Fellowships of between two and four months are intended to encourage outstanding interdisciplinary research, international scholarly collaboration, and networking activities of Visiting Research Fellows with a specific focus on the Environmental Humanities. Fellows are awarded approximately $1,750 per month.

Council for European Studies

European Studies Book Award 2020

The European Studies Book Award honors the work of talented scholars who have written their first book on any subject in European Studies published within a two-year period. A formal presentation of the award will be conducted at the following International Conference of Europeanists. The winning author will receive $1,000 as well as travel assistance to attend the conference and award ceremony. The winner will also be recognized in CES publications and on our website. The European Studies Book Award is awarded in even years, alternating with the European Studies First Article Prize. Eligible books must be the first book written by the nominee in the field of European Studies; not be a reprint or re-edition of a previously published book; be the work of one author only who must be a member of the Council for European Studies or must hold a full-time faculty appointment at an institution that is a member. Nominations may be submitted by the publisher, author or an admiring colleague. The application period is open annually from July to October.

Volkswagen Foundation, The

Experiment! – In search of bold research ideas

The Volkswagen Foundation is dedicated to the support of the humanities and social sciences as well as science and technology in higher education and research. The Volkswagen Foundation’s funding initiative 'Experiment!' tries to pave the way for fundamentally new research topics even though the outcome may be contingent. A concept failure as well as unexpected findings are an acceptable result. The initiative addresses researchers in science and engineering as well as in the life sciences (including immediately neighboring disciplines in the behavioral sciences), who want to put a potentially transformative and risky research idea to the test. They are given the opportunity to demonstrate preliminary evidence for a concept’s potential during an exploratory phase which is limited to 18 months and up to 120,000 Euro. Towards the end of a grant the projects’ progress will be presented at the Foundation’s 'Forum Experiment!'. The primary applicant must be affiliated with a German institution. International partners are welcome. Be sure to check the website for upcoming deadlines.

The IBM Faculty Awards is a competitive worldwide program intended to foster collaboration between researchers at leading universities worldwide and those in IBM research, development and services organizations; and promote curriculum innovation to stimulate growth in disciplines and geographies that are strategic to IBM. To qualify for this internationally competitive award, the nominee must be a full-time professor at an accredited university that has a Ph.D. or MBA program in the nominee's field. IBM does not accept unsolicited requests or proposals for faculty Awards. An IBM employee with common interests and who will serve as liaison for the collaboration must nominate candidates. The application process is open annually from January to October.
