About
Leading experts in dysphagia in pediatrics and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities will honor Joan’s memory and build on her legacy with a contemporary analysis of research and clinical applications for the management of dysphagia in these populations. This one-day conference will include talks from experts in pediatric dysphagia diagnostics, complex care management, and neuroplasticity.

Learning Outcomes
- Describe the new findings on the peripheral and central physiological mechanisms that underlie dysphagia in Cerebral Palsy.
- Develop skills in how to incorporate the new findings into practice/management.
- Identify shifts in the populations of children with swallowing/feeding disorders.
- Identify needs for and benefits associated with standardization.
- Define the terms clinical judgment, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking.
- Identifiy principles of sensorimotor learning and neural plasticity as basis for evaluation and intervention for children with neurologic swallowing and feeding disorders.
- Describe how to incorporate findings from past and current research focused on early identification and intervention for pediatric feeding disorders.
- Describe 3 “Red Flags” and 5 key questions as a screening tool for early identification of infants and children with possible feeding disorders.
