About


Leading experts in dysphagia in pediatrics and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities will honor Joan’s memory and build on her legacy with a contemporary analysis of research and clinical applications for the management of dysphagia in these populations. This one-day conference will include talks from experts in pediatric dysphagia diagnostics, complex care management, and neuroplasticity.

Learning Outcomes


  1. Describe the new findings on the peripheral and central physiological mechanisms that underlie dysphagia in Cerebral Palsy.
  2. Develop skills in how to incorporate the new findings into practice/management.
  3. Identify shifts in the populations of children with swallowing/feeding disorders.
  4. Identify needs for and benefits associated with standardization.
  5. Define the terms clinical judgment, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking.
  6. Identifiy principles of sensorimotor learning and neural plasticity as basis for evaluation and intervention for children with neurologic swallowing and feeding disorders.
  7. Describe how to incorporate findings from past and current research focused on early identification and intervention for pediatric feeding disorders.
  8. Describe 3 “Red Flags” and 5 key questions as a screening tool for early identification of infants and children with possible feeding disorders.
