Based on years of research, the Empowered Eaters reports authors shared recommendations that focus on increasing access to nutrition education initiatives, specifically on improving the systems that govern, deliver, and fund nutrition education:
--EXPAND--
We must expand nutrition education in New York State and New York City by increasing flexible and long-term funding; embedding nutrition education into broader public health and health care reforms; and allocate funding for evaluations that can support advocacy and program reforms.

We must strengthen policies for nutrition education by codifying initiatives; engaging elected officials as nutrition education champions; and sharing stories of success.

We must enhance local providers’ capacity to implement nutrition education initiatives. Local providers are best equipped to respond to the needs of their communities, but they need adequate funding; a role in designing and implementing nutrition education policy; and streamlined reporting requirements.

We must improve collaboration and coordination among nutrition education initiatives. This includes establishing a common definition for nutrition education; developing mechanisms for cross agency, cross provider collaboration and communication; and coordinating goals.
