Evalyn Edwards Milman Literacy, Music, and Art Fellowships
The 2025-2026 application process will open on February 28, 2025. The deadline for all applications is Friday, March 28, 2025.
The Evalyn Edwards Milman Literacy Fellowship and the Evalyn Edwards Milman Music Fellowship are financial aid awards in the amount of $10,000 plus the value of 6 tuition points per academic year (for 2024-2025, this was $22,294) for Teachers College students to provide literacy or music education for 10 hours per week in TC's partnership schools in Harlem. For literacy, the schools are: Teachers College Community School, CS 154 Harriet Tubman Learning Center, or PS 36, The Margaret Douglass School. For music, the schools are Teachers College Community School and CS 154 Harriet Tubman Learning Center. Final placements are determined by the Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Office of the President, and the REACH Director.
The Evalyn Edwards Milman Art Fellowship is a financial aid award in the amount of $10,000 for Teachers College students to provide art education for 10 hours per week at Teachers College Community School. This fellowship will be supplemented with $2,500 in funds for a total of $12,500 for the fellowship in 2025-2026. Final placement is determined by the Director of Strategic Partnerships for the Office of the President.
Students are selected for the fellowships based on the needs of the partnership schools and on students’ experience. Preference is given to TC students enrolled in the literacy specialist, music education, and art education programs. Fellowship selections are made by a committee consisting of TCCS and REACH team members in consultation with faculty members from the Curriculum and Teaching, Music, and Art.
Students applying for any of the Evalyn Edwards Milman Fellowships must be matriculated and enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours per semester. Awards are made for one year, but awards may be renewed for subsequent years provided the Fellow continues to meet the eligibility criteria and the needs of the project. The Fellow must establish and abide by a schedule determined together with the sponsor. It is expected that the Fellow will complete ten (10) hours of engagement with students in partnership schools each week. Current full-time TC employees are NOT eligible for the fellowship.
