About

The Wellness Program Finder is a searchable database of food, nutrition, physical and mental health programs serving New York City PreK-12 public schools, run by nonprofits, hospitals, companies, government agencies, and universities.

Find a Program

Use the filters to narrow your search results. Results are listed alphabetically based on the organization's name. If you are not finding expected results, try removing a filter or use the text search bar. If you have too many results, try adding another filter to refine your search.

Submit a Program

If your organization is a program provider for NYC PreK-12 students, we invite you to submit your program(s) for inclusion in our database. Our database includes, but is not limited to: food, nutrition, physical activity, and mental health programs. Our goal is to create an inclusive database to showcase the breadth of programming available to NYC schools.

Who is this Database For?

The database was designed for three key audiences:

  • School community members such as school leaders, parents, teachers, after-school organizers, to find programs for their students
  • Program organizers to identify, learn from, and collaborate with partners
  • Funders and policymakers to be informed of the landscape of programming in NYC schools

How Was Information for the Database Collected?

The database was created in collaboration with the Tisch Food Center and the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. Organizations self-select and submit program information using our program survey.

This information is not vetted by the Tisch Food Center, the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, or New York City Department of Education. The programs listed are not comprehensive or inclusive of ALL programs available.

Is the Database Updated?

This database is periodically updated with new/updated information about programs. The program information may not be up to date. Please reach out to the program or visit their website for the most up to date information.

Who Should I Contact if I Have Questions About the Database?

If you have any suggestions, comments, questions, or concerns about our database, please contact Andrew Barrett, Food Ed Hub Director (amb2556@tc.columbia.edu)

YABC/TOP/SYEP Program: Farm Assistants for Teens For Food Justice’s Hydroponic Farm

Each of TFFJ's high school sites hosts TOP/YABC interns to work as Farm Assistants on the hydroponic farm. They work along side the Farmer Educator, working to maintain the hydroponic systems.

Students benefit because they can be paid and/or receive credits to participate in the program. They learn the key skills necessary to upkeep the hydroponic farm.

The program is unique in that students learn to interact with hydroponic systems used to grow large quantities of food that goes into the school's cafeteria and the surrounding community.

Length/Duration:

  • The TOP/YABC program runs throughout the school year, and hours depend on the student's availability
  • SYEP runs throughout the Summer, typically for 6 weeks in July and beginning of August

Requirement(s):

  • Funding is needed to cover the equipment and installation cost of building the hydroponic systems
  • A full-time farmer educator is needed to manage the hydroponic farm and co-teach lessons with a DOE educator during the school day, as well as manage the farm assistant interns

Organization: Yo Re Mi

Yo Re Mi

Yo Re Mi brings curriculum-based music and yoga education to NYC schools (Pre-school age 2 through 5th Grade). Through our unique combination of live music, yoga-based movement and mindfulness practices, children learn with their bodies, minds, and voices all at once. We proudly design and implement music and yoga curriculum for thousands of children in New York City area schools and daycare centers.

YOGA fosters concentration, focus, strength, flexibility, balance, health, social emotional learning, fine and gross motor skills, and breath and body awareness. MUSIC fosters speech development, listening skills, patterning and sequencing, social skills, emotional development, memory, and physical coordination. COMBINING MUSIC WITH YOGA triggers sensory integration and complex cognitive development, aiding retention as children learn through experiences that include physical, auditory, and emotional inputs.

Yo Re Mi is the only program that combines music and yoga education - children receive two enrichment classes in one! Our talented teaching artists are certified yoga teachers, professional musicians and early childhood experts.

Organization: Community Food Advocates

Youth Food Advocates

Youth Food Advocates (YFA) is an experiential learning model where young people gain foundational social justice and public policy knowledge and develop advocacy and leadership skills to create systemic change in New York City food systems, with a focus on school food. New YFA members participate in a week-long foundational summer leadership training. Throughout the week youth engage in knowledge building, skill building, and conversations with experts in the food justice field. The week-long training is grounded from a racial justice lens by examining US policies from 1865 to present, they explore the 150+ history of federal school meals programs, and learn policy advocacy through our NYC school food campaigns. Activities are designed to promote connection, reflection, dialogue, practice, learning and unlearning.

YFA members are trained to be school food experts. They practice research, communication, leadership, organizing, planning, and advocacy skills through real-world implementation of actions at their campus and citywide. The work of our YFA members has the potential for great impact for all NYC public school students.

YFA members share in the decision-making process of youth-led advocacy actions throughout the school year with a focus on three areas of school food: Menu Inclusivity, Cafeteria Environment, and Communication & Student Voice. Youth are encouraged to innovate and evolve the seeds that have been planted by the cohorts before them, and brainstorm new and exciting ideas based on their lived experience. Member can return to program for 3 years during their high school careers. Each summer they deepen their expertise with additional training and capacity building.
